Recognition for BHP Billiton Illawarra Coal’s Tickit Project

CONGRATULATIONS! BHP Billiton Illawarra Coal on being a finalist in the NSW Minerals Council Excellence Awards for Environment and Community. Illawarra Coal received recognition for their innovative Health Safety Environment and Community Legal Compliance Register (HSEC Register). The register is a result of collaboration between Tickit Systems, Environment Essentials and Illawarra Coal.

Illawarra Coal operates 3 underground coal operations, 2 coal processing facilities, Logistics and the Port Kembla Coal Terminal. Ray Aitken of Illawarra Coal in his presentation to the NSW Minerals Council said that legislation, approvals, consent conditions and licenses meant multiple obligations and complexity.

Tickit On Demand our risk and compliance software provides the engine powering the register. Environment Essentials a leading provider of legislative content related to environment and safety provided the content for the solution. The Tickit On Demand Software enables Illawarra Coal to present each manager with ‘plain english’ obligations that they are responsible for and enables the managers to provide assurance of a regular frequency that these obligations are being met. Obligations can be linked to legislative summaries or policy procedure, providing managers will complete information on their and the organisation’s responsibilities.

The HSEC Legal compliance register simplified obligations for people at Illawarra Coal to manage. Mr Aitken listed some of the features of the HSEC register in his presentation, these included:

  • The register provides each manager with a clear idea of the obligations that they manage.
  • Routine compliance status reports
  • Email notifications when obligations are due.
  • Reports that can be configured and scheduled
  • Roll up reports for Directors & Officers
